Lauro De Freitas Central is a small city in Bahia de Guarapari, Brazil. It covers 56.3 km² and has a population of 194,644. Lauro De Freitas has an approximate population density of 3,000 people per square kilometre. It is situated approximately 15km from the city of Salvador, in the northeast of Brazil's Amazon Rainforest. The city is one of the few municipalities in the state of Bahia, that is part of the Amazonian reserve.

There are a small number of foreign residents who work in the local area as traders or plantation workers. Some of the foreign residents have come to study, while others have come for the same reason that most foreigners come to Brazil - to experience life without the pressures and demands that are often felt in many cities.
